Thursday Daniel Orton News

It is very late and has been a LONG day, so we have to make it quick. Daniel Orton is right back at it in the news this morning. His father told Jerry Tipton that at this point “you could say” that Kentucky was his leader. This is, by my count, the fifth interview (including one with us) in which one of the Orton clan has expressed the belief that Kentucky is their current leader. That cannot be bad news. To have a player of Orton’s caliber continually list Kentucky as the favorite is nothing but good news. However as we get closer to fall signing period, Kentucky fans do have to be wondering if he will pull the trigger, or wait until the Spring as he has suggested. If it is the latter, the “will he or wont he” stories may go on all year. But we do at this point know that Orton will be attending Midnight Madness (presumably with his friend John Wall) and that for the third straight year, that event will have huge consequences on the recruiting front.

Some football notes going into the game on Saturday….

— It looks as if LT Gerry Williams may be out on Saturday as he tweaked a leg injury that is causing him to miss some practice. The injury is not supposed to have long term significance, but will call him to miss the game this weekend, making an already shaky offensive line without its cornerstone.

— We had the Norfolk State play by play guy on our radio show, who said that Kentucky fans should expect the Spartans to run their Quarterback early and often. Running QBs have been a test for UK over the years and it will be interesting to see how they do against such a system now. He also hinted that the defense of Norfolk State may be just what the sputtering UK offense ordered.

— Expect to see more of Gene McCaskill at WR this week, who the coaches liked in looking at his film of his performance on Sunday.

I am in a conference tomorrow, but the guys are bringing the heat all day, including a post from Bobby Perry on what it is like to play teams that you know you have outmanned. Stay tuned…..
