Thursday's Football Practice Notes and Today's KSR Podcast

by:Rashawn Franklin09/13/12
Some guy was at Kentucky's Football practice today, and they tell me he's pretty important. Miles Ken-Gilchrist or Mike Kidd-Graver... something like that. Either way, people were excited to see him. -Seriously, it was great to see MKG at practice today. I suspect that a lot of former Kentucky stars will start popping up throughout campus with the Alumni game on Saturday. As Tyler posted earlier, Kidd-Gilchrist will not participate in the Alumni game this weekend. He's pretty much the difference between the Bobcats and the NBA cellar, and they'd rather have him healthy. Understandable. -There wasn't much news from Coach Phillips today. The intensity of practice was lowered today, and that's to give the player's bodies some rest before a physical Western Kentucky team comes to town. -As you all know, Coach Phillips media availability has been cut down this season and today he gave the reason why. "I never get to see my team in the locker room. It's not about [the media]. It's about hanging out with my guys." -Phillips doesn't care for the term "go-to-guy" when talking about wide receivers. "I don't know how Aaron Boyd is now our go-to-guy. He caught ten or eleven balls last week, someone else will do it this week." Phillips said when he watched tape of Clemson, before their 2008 bowl game against Kentucky, he saw them take away Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson, who was their "go-to-guy." He knew that with guys like Dicky Lyons, Jr., Stevie Johnson, and Keenan Burton that it would be tough for Clemson to take away the entire stable of receivers. Kentucky beat Clemson 21-13. -When asked about his relationship with DC Rick Minter, Phillips said their relationship is "great." "We're all on the same page."   Finally, for those who need it, here's today's Kentucky Sports Radio radio podcast...   ******Update********* Apparently Kidd-Gilchrist is playing in Saturday's game:
