Greetings, friends. I'm still unwinding from yesterday's SEC Basketball Media Day and the debate, but it's a new day and time to break down the ten things you need to know, brought to you by these two servicemen stationed in Afghanistan.
1. John Calipari brought up Duke copying his method yesterday
There was a ton of material from Kentucky's turn on the floor at SEC Basketball Media day yesterday, but I found John Calipari's comments about Duke copying his method of recruiting and putting players in the pros the most interesting.
"As soon as Duke did it, it was okay. That’s fine for me because here’s what they proved: even Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, you can be about these kids and it be okay and it’s not going to hurt you as a coach, it’s not going to hurt your program. So, I was happy it happened.”
2. I don't think Isaiah Briscoe liked this question
Last week at Media Day, Malik Monk claimed the freshmen have dominated the upperclassmen in each practice so far. In hopes of inspiring a little good-natured trash talk, I asked Isaiah Briscoe about Monk's comments, and, well, he refused to respond.
Now I know how Paul Finebaum feels.
3. Watch all of Calipari's remarks here
Lots of good stuff, so if you're in a basketball mood this morning, enjoy:
4. We'll hear Stoops' last comments before Mississippi State
Stoops will address reporters after practice for the last time before this weekend's crucial Mississippi State showdown. Yesterday, DJ Eliot addressed reporters and said he believes his defense is capable of stopping dual-threat QB Nick Fitzgerald based on how they stopped South Carolina's dual-threat QB earlier in the season.
Yeah, given Kentucky football's history with dual-threat quarterbacks, I'm still nervous.
5. Danny Clark will be on campus this weekend
The former Ohio State quarterback commit is announcing his decision this weekend, and you should take it as a very good sign that this weekend, he's also visiting Kentucky. Clark has been high on the Cats since parting ways with the Buckeyes, going as far to say that he likes UK quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw so much he could see him in his wedding, so it looks like Stoops' 2017 class will get a much-needed boost (hopefully along with a win) on Saturday.
Now, what do we do with that Ohio State tattoo?
6. So will SEC Nation
The SEC Network is probably already setting up outside the William T. Young library for Saturday's show, which will run from 10 a.m. to noon and feature Paul Finebaum, Tim Tebow, Marcus Spears, Maria Taylor, and Laura Rutledge. Do the BBN well and get on out there Saturday morning with a clever sign, why don't you? The first 200 students/fans get free t-shirts!!!!
7. Did you see Karl Towns' performance last night?
Towns had 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists in 24 minutes (!) in the Timberwolves' win over the Grizzlies. I'll have a full breakdown of how the rest of the Cats in the league did last night a little later today.
8. Is today the day UofL receives its Notice of Allegations from the NCAA?
That's what the Courier-Journal says. Keep an eye on this here website throughout the day to see the NCAA's findings. Louisville has 90 days to refute the findings, in which case the NCAA will have 60 days to issue a counter. The Cards already gave themselves a postseason ban last season, but will it be enough to escape further punishment?
9. Just booked my trip to Vegas for Kentucky/North Carolina
Because Vegas is Vegas and UK/UNC is UK/UNC, I think the December 17 showdown has potential to be one of the best roadtrips in recent UK Basketball history. I'll be in Sin City with my husband and friends from Thursday to Sunday, cheering on the Cats and searching out $10 blackjack tables. See you there?
10. Did you see Stingray Steve on "Hey, Kentucky!" last night?
If not, you owe it to yourself to get ready for Saturday's game in the most ridiculous manner possible:
Radio in an hour...
