Tim Duncan's Friday Morning Wakeup

Have we seen the end of Tim Duncan? If so, that was the quietest exit ever for a legend. Unlike Kobe Bryant, there was no farewell tour or special send-off to Duncan's career. Twitter did not break during his last game. Hell, Gregg Popovich didn't even pull him in the final minute for one last ovation from the crowd. No, Duncan simply got into the handshake line with his shoulders slumped in defeat as Oklahoma City sent San Antonio home from the playoffs in Game 6 of the Western Conference semi-finals last night. A 19-year career, one of the best of all-time, likely over in a disappointing loss as the West's No. 2 seed. Then again, knowing Duncan, he'll probably come back for one more run. He doesn't seem like the type of guy that'll enjoy retirement. He might have another decade or two in him. "I need to figure life out," he told reporters last night. Either way, it was a pleasure rooting against the best power forward ever for most of my NBA-watching life.     Marcus Lee is "87 percent" going to the NBA. Lee was very precise in naming the likelihood he remains in the NBA draft. He would not commit to being 100 percent gone from Lexington, but he said it is "87 percent" a done deal. Wonder how he came up with that exact number? Lee thinks Kentucky will go undefeated if he returns. Bold statement there. Tyler Ulis recorded a 38-inch max vertical. At the time, it was the fourth-highest vert at the combine. We won't know where it compares overall until all of the numbers are released, but regardless of where it ranks, that is an impressive stat for Ulis. I don't think many people realized he could get up like that. Here's how the three Wildcats measured out at the combine:
Name Height w/o Shoes Height w/shoes Weight Wingspan Reach Body Fat Hand Length Hand Width
Skal Labissiere 6′ 10.5″ 6′ 11.75″ 216 7′ 2.5″ 8′ 9.5″ 5.7 8.75 9
Tyler Ulis 5′ 8.75″ 5′ 10″ 149 6′ 2″ 7′ 4.5″ 5.2 7.50 7.50
Marcus Lee 6′ 9” 6′ 10.25″ 211 7′ 3″ 8′ 11.5″ 5.4 9 9
Ulis is not the shortest player in Chicago. Kay Felder from Oakland holds that claim, measuring out a half-inch shorter than Ulis. How about Lee's hair? lee-combine He wears the blond much better than Willie Cauley-Stein did. Matt House officially named inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. Mark Stoops said of his new hire, the former d-coordinator at FIU, “I’m very excited to bring Matt into the program. He brings a wealth of experiences from the NFL and college football.  I’ve spoken before about how I like having coaches with defensive coordinator experience in the staff room and Matt has that as well.” Have a look at the new staff, courtesy of CoachingSearch.com. uk-16-staff By my count that is five new names, or, half of the entire staff. More teams coming after Mac Jones. Jones upped his offer sheet to 22 scholarships yesterday with new offers from Ole Miss and Missouri, bringing his total to five offers within the SEC, including Kentucky. Mark Stoops countered the attack by offering a scholarship to Ahman Ross, Jones' high school teammate and close friend. A three-star safety, Ross decommitted from Miami earlier this week. KSR is in Stanford today. Go see the guys and listen to the show at First Southern National Bank from 10 am to noon.   I'm looking forward to a fun Friday with you guys.
