Today on KSR: Big Decision for the Big Ten

The conference up north has spent three days scrambling to the tune of Yakety Sax. Today is the day the music should stop, temporarily.
Big Ten officials will meet this morning approximately 10:30 am to make a decision on college football this fall. The way Kevin Warren has operated the league in his short time as commissioner, the possibilities are endless. Even though the league has made the impression that they have no interest in playing football, players and coaches dramatically pushed back over the last 24 hours.
Will it be enough to save football in the Big Ten? That's uncertain for now. What we do know is that the SEC has not been significantly swayed from their intention to play. The Power Five has split into a coalition of sorts. The Pac-12 has teamed up with the Big Ten, while the SEC is leading the charge to play alongside the ACC. The odd man out, the Big 12, may ultimately decide if football is played at all, depending on which coalition they ultimately decide to join. (For what it's worth, if up to Bowlsby he would most likely side with his long-time ACC and SEC colleagues).
Conference officials will continue to bicker behind closed doors. Prepare for more anonymously sourced reports breaking throughout the day as news flies fast and furiously.

Good News on Kenny Payne Watch
The Big Blue Nation is still waiting to hear if John Calipari's righthand man will continue in his role as UK's associate basketball coach or take his talents to the New York Knicks. Monday evening a piece of recruiting news may have shed light on where Payne is leaning. Travis Graf reported that Kentucky formally reached out to former UofL commit, Bryce Hopkins. The top 50 wing may end up being a big-time addition down the road. What's important right now is the coach that spoke to Hopkins was Kenny Payne. Would Payne still be recruiting if he was planning on leaving the school in a few days? I don't think so. Don't pop the champagne bottles yet, but this is undoubtedly a good sign that Payne will remain in Lexington.Good News and Bad News from Beshear
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave restaurateurs news to be excited about Monday afternoon when he revealed that bars can reopen while restaurants can increase capacity to 50% occupancy. There is a kick: last call has been moved up to 10 pm and doors must be closed by 11 pm. The restrictions are expected to last for at least two weeks. In the press conference Beshear also recommended that schools remain closed to in-person instruction until Sept. 28. Additionally, Beshear was asked multiple questions about the Kentucky Derby. The Governor expects Churchill Downs to share more news later this week, but did have this to say:"I had a conversation with the CEO today. I believe they're going to have more information this week. I will say that they are taking steps to significantly reduce the numbers of people that would be there for live, in-person viewing of the Derby," he said. "Where there numbers are I think would surprise people when they talk about them, but I do believe they are trying to take more than reasonable steps, I think they're trying to take very active steps to create a safe environment and are on the path to do that."

Fresh off a series win over Milwaukee, the Cincinnati Reds have returned home to take on a team they rarely face, the Kansas City Royals.
