Today on KSR: Cats shutout in rain-drenched loss to Georgia

On a cold and rainy night in Athens, Kentucky fell to #10 Georgia 21-0. In the loss, the Cats were shutout for the first time since the infamous 40-0 loss to Vanderbilt in 2012.
As we all tabbed it before the season, this was a game we expected to lose. For 2.5 quarters, the defense played unbelievable before a Max Duffy shanked punt allowed for Georgia to take their first play in positive territory and the rest, you could say, was history.

If you didn't watch the game and just read the box score, you would probably think the Kentucky offense was anaemic. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't great, but considering the circumstances, I am not sure Cats fans owe Lynn Bowden enough.
Sure, they only completed two passes, but Georgia didn't complete many more with a guy who will be taking snaps at the position on Sundays soon. Bowden is the most electric player to suit up for the blue and white since Randall Cobb and if the last two games haven't shown that, I am not sure what will.
He is a gamer. He consistently would put his body on the line to pick up close yardage. A few times, he had monster gains that were called back due to holding calls, but alas, the performance the past two weeks by the Wildcat junior have been all we could have asked for and more.

Both Kash Daniel and Kavosiey Smoke left the game with injuries. Mark Stoops said postgame that for Smoke, it was an AC joint issue in his shoulder. With that, it will all depend on pain tolerance. The running back did appear in a few plays in the second half, but nowhere near his usual load.
On Daniel, Stoops said that he was "dinged up." His status moving forward to future games is still to be determined. I would presume he would know more at tomorrow's press conference.

"Scoop" Lemond gave the prediction last week that Sawyer Smith would take snaps in yesterday's game against the Bulldogs between the hedges. While it didn't happen, it doesn't appear that was because he wasn't ready and more so based on the weather/opponent.

At the start of yesterday, next week's game against Missouri looked to possibly be a daunting task. Clemson grad transfer quarterback Kelly Bryant is at the helm of the team who seemed to be playing really good football.
On the other hand, they were rolling into to Nashville to play a team trending the exact opposite. Derek Mason's time at Vanderbilt looked to be coming to an end sooner rather than later. With all of that being said, the Commodores upset Missouri 21-14.
This means that for the second straight week, Kentucky will face a team that had an embarrassing loss the week prior.

The biggest news in SEC play yesterday was Tua Tagovailoa leaving the game with a lower leg injury.

No matter how you feel about Alabama and Nick Saban, you never want to this happen to anyone, especially someone who is on his way to making a lot of money at the next level.
With the injury, former Kentucky commit Mac Jones came into the game and helped defeat the Vols; 35-17.

Lynn Bowden deserves all the credit in the world

“He’s close,” Stoops continued. “It’s tough on a cold, rainy, miserable night to put him in when he’s just there or getting close to getting ready to play. He would go. You saw him go in the South Carolina game. He would play if his arm is falling off. But I can’t do that to him again. It was a tough night and I knew it was going to be a tough grind, so we gave ourselves the best option we felt like we had at that point.”No one knows the players more than Mark Stoops. This decision is one that really can't be criticized.
