Devin Booker signs 5-year, $158M max extension

 

Former Kentucky guard Devin Booker may not be old enough to rent a car from certain dealerships, but he has enough money to purchase any business that dares to turn him away. Late Saturday night, the 21-year-old signed a five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension with the Phoenix Suns, confirming earlier reports by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Booker’s contract is the seventh-largest in terms of total value in NBA history, trailing only John Wall ($170.9 million) of the Washington Wizards as the second-richest former Wildcat in the league.

 

Former UCLA standout Tyler Honeycutt dies at age 27

 

Former first-team All-Pac-10 performer Tyler Honeycutt passed away of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff with police last Friday in Los Angeles. Honeycutt averaged 10.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in two seasons with UCLA.

 

England and Croatia advance to semifinals of World Cup

 

England defeated Sweden 2-0 in Saturday’s first match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals. Croatia needed both extra time and a full slate of penalty kicks to defeat host Russia after a 2-2 deadlock, earning the last spot in the tournament’s semifinal round. The final four kicks off with France and Belgium on Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET, followed by England versus Croatia on Wednesday at the same time.

 

Kevin Knox impresses in NBA Summer League debut

 

After coupling his selection with the ninth overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft with a ceremonious chorus of boos from New York Knicks fans, Kevin Knox led his team to a 91-89 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday in Las Vegas. Knox finished with a team-high 22 points, eight rebounds, one steal, and a block in his NBA Summer League debut. The 18-year-old opened his big performance with a steal and fast-break dunk through traffic and never looked back.

Malik Monk to miss 6-8 weeks with broken thumb

 

Former Kentucky star Malik Monk suffered a fractured right thumb last Friday in the Charlotte Hornets’ 88-87 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Monk managed 23 points on 9-for-16 (.562) shooting from the floor and 4-of-9 (.444) attempts from three-point range, in addition to two assists and two steals, over 27 minutes in the win. The former Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year will miss the remainder of NBA Summer League action and be re-evaluated in six-to-eight weeks.
