Kentucky Basketball hosts Central Michigan

Kentucky Basketball is back in Monday night action–MACtion, rather–tonight against Central Michigan. The Chippewas travel to Rupp Arena with a 1-4 record on the year, led by first-year head coach Tony Barbee, formerly of John Calipari’s Kentucky staff.

Barbee took the job last offseason after six seasons in Lexington. So far this year, he guided Central Michigan to a win over Eastern Illinois, but the Chippewas fell short in games at Missouri and Depaul to start the season and against Gonzaga and Bellarmine out in Las Vegas last week.

Kentucky laying 28 points to the Chippewas

In normal states where sports gambling is legal, Kentucky opened as a 28-point home favorite against Central Michigan, according to VegasInsider.com‘s opening line. You better move fast if you’re betting it because the spread has already jumped to as high as 30.5 in some places.

For over/under enthusiasts, the total on the game is 146.5. The under has hit in three of the last four Kentucky Basketball games.

The game is on SEC Network+/ESPN+ only

For the second Monday in a row and the last time this season, Kentucky Basketball will not be found on traditional television but via digital streaming only. If you were able to find the Albany game last week, you’ll have to do that all over again to see Kentucky-Central Michigan later this evening.

We’ll remind you with instructions on KentuckySportsRadio.com a little later today; until then, you can read about it here from last week.

The game can only be seen on SEC Network+ and ESPN+.

Mark Stoops Watch

As expected, Mark Stoops’ name is riding the postseason coaching carousel in college football. According to KSR’s own Matt Jones, Stoops went to Mitch Barnhart with requests to keep Stoops happy in Lexington. Meanwhile, he’s a candidate at some of the open jobs around the country, including the two we worry about: LSU and Oklahoma.

Stoops has been a name in the LSU search for a couple of weeks now, but the Oklahoma job is brand new following Lincoln Riley’s sudden departure for USC. Stoops has the connection to Oklahoma via his brother, who happens to be Oklahoma’s interim coach for its bowl game.

This is all moving quickly and KSR will keep you updated as news and rumors happen.

Kentucky Soccer lost in the Sweet 16

An unfortunate result from Sunday night, Kentucky Men’s Soccer’s NCAA Tournament run ended in the Sweet 16.

Playing against Clemson at Clemson, the Wildcats fell down a goal early when the Tigers scored a go-ahead goal in the 14th minute. The game remained at 1-0 all the way until the 85th minute when Kentucky’s Lucca Rodrigues headed in the equalizer. However, Clemson was quick to respond with a game-winner in the 89th, thus ending the Wildcats’ tournament life, 2-1.

Kentucky finished the year with a 15-2-4 record and a trip to the Sweet 16 for the third time in four seasons.

Kentucky Volleyball earned a No. 7 seed

As Kentucky Soccer ends its postseason, Kentucky Volleyball begins its NCAA Tournament run. On Sunday, the defending champs learned they will host first and second-round matches as the No. 7 overall seed.

First, Kentucky plays Southeast Missouri State in Memorial Coliseum this coming Friday; followed by the winner of Illinois and West Virginia in the second round on Saturday.

Not so fun, Texas awaits in the same region.

L’s Down

You didn’t think I’d run through all of the hot topics and not mention the big win over Louisville did, you? We’re still celebrating at KSR HQ and even spent a little time with the Governor’s Cup trophy on Sunday. The trophy stopped by Tin Roof for Will Levis’ special guest appearance on Pin It Deep and it spent the day hanging with fans and watching NFL Sunday.

Speaking of Levis, here are his highlights to get your Monday rolling.
