The Commonwealth of Kentucky stole the Saturday night spotlight.  As the University of Kentucky Wildcats erased a 15-point halftime deficit in West Virginia, Chris Stapleton announced a Saturday Night Live surprise: “Tonight we got some extra Kentucky in NYC.”

Sturgill Simpson accompanied Stapleton to create two fantastic live performances.  In the midst of a bro country climate, two Grammy-winning rebels from Kentucky shredded the primetime SNL stage.

Hopefully the SNL-performance was just a tease of more to come.  The two Kentuckians are a wonderful combination this world needs.  If it does happen, they can take all of my money.  There’s not a price tag too small to see them tear up a stage.

They weren’t the only musicians from Kentucky to shine on a big stage this weekend.  Louisville’s Bryson Tiller performed at the Grammy’s alongside Rihanna and DJ Khaled.  You can watch some of that performance here.

I still can’t believe Kentucky Won

“Shock” and “disbelief” still don’t accurately describe my feelings after Kentucky flipped the script in the second half to dominate West Virginia.  What’s so shocking isn’t that Kentucky won, it’s how they won.

A team that had been out-toughed in defeat multiple times grew up before our eyes in the second half.  They fought for loose balls, they ferociously attacked the rim, they were perfect from the free-throw line and most impressively, they out-West Virginia’d West Virginia by getting everything they needed from everybody.  Quade controlled the ball, Diallo hustled, Wenyen fought, Richards finished and Knox starred.

The third-largest second half comeback in school history changed the outlook of the 2018 season.  I think the BBN agrees with Coach Cal, “I love this team.”

Calipari Speaks

Coach Cal will talk about his team today around 2:00.  By then the Cats will likely be back in the Top 25 and have a new SEC Player of the Week award-winner.  I don’t know how the SEC can give the award anybody not named Kevin Knox.  Cal will also be on the radio tonight for his call-in show at 6:00 on the UK Sports Network.

Football Recruiting Moves

Just ten days away from National Signing Day, the 2018 class looks different as we head down the stretch.  There was some good news and some bad news.  First, the bad news: Xavier Peters has flipped to Florida State.  The All-American linebacker pulled the trigger before his official visit concluded.  It’s hard to blame the kid for making the move, especially after Deion Sanders got involved.

As for the good news: UK hosted its top remaining target for an official visit this weekend.  Running back Kavosiey Smoke did not make a final decision, but the Cats are much closer to receiving a commitment.  Smoke doesn’t look bad in blue.

Watch UK Hoops on the SEC Network

After arguably their best performance of the season last Thursday against Alabama, the Kentucky women’s basketball team returns to the court tonight at Arkansas’s Bud Walton Arena.  You can catch all the action at 7:00 on the SEC Network.
