lacey2 Hunter McClintock tries to draw a charge on Lacey Yesteday, Trevor Lacey went to work in the Alabama High School State tournament, scoring 37 of his teams 57 points in their 20-point win. Butler continues on after winning the Northwest Regional of the 4A class in Alabama. His team takes their 3o-2 record and  #1 ranking to Birmingham next Wednesday morning. Their opponent, Midfield, is ranked #3. This article mentions his big game, as well as the small fan club of girls who approached Lacey. His monster season has surely solidified his second straight Mr. Basketball award. A different article from the same newspaper discusses how Trevor has become a legend in the state of Alabama, the 'same dirt' of Eric Bledsoe and DeMarcus Cousins. It also mentions his academic struggles that we have heard so much about:
While Butler coach Jack Doss said his star's "drive to be an All-American" sets him apart on the court, he doesn't show the same ambition in the classroom. Lacey admittedly has not been the student he could be, leading to rampant speculation that he might not qualify to enter college. He insists he will. His teachers aren't completely faulted, if at all. He failed the fourth grade at Montview, went to Monte Sano and then Huntsville Middle School, where he sat out halves of seventh- and eighth-grade years because of grade trouble. Lacey said he's going to take the ACT on April 9 because he wants to get a higher score and make it easier to pass the NCAA Clearinghouse. His dad said he thinks it's "a done deal" he'll qualify. However, William Pride added, he has talked to experts about overseas basketball to give his son an option if he doesn't make a high enough score.
Really strange hearing that his father is strongly weighing the option of going to Brandon Jennings route if he cannot qualify. Can't blame him, though, he it means a year without basketball or JuCo. Lacey knowingly dreamed of getting an official UK offer for months, ever since Cal came to Lexington. Does he have real one now? Maybe. He says he knows where he wants to go. Honestly, he has probably known for quite some time that he wanted to attend UK, but at this point, it still seems like the decision in is in the hand of Cal and Lacey's academics. Stay tuned for April 13, when he makes an announcement.
