Troy edges out Southern Miss in "All-ex-UK Coaching Staff Bowl"

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="534"] via Montgomeryherald.com[/caption] Former UK player-turned-UK-offensive-coordinator-turned-head-coach-at-Troy Neal Brown defeated former Kentucky offensive coordinator-reject-turned-offensive-coordinator-at-a-worse-program Shannon Dawson in barnburning fashion yesterday. To be clear, Neal Brown doesn't qualify as a "reject" in the same way that Dawson is. Anyways, Dawson's Golden Eagles found themselves in a hole when Troy got up on them 24-10 midway through the second quarter, but they came back to make it a nailbiter, where they had ample opportunity to take the lead in the fourth. Southern Miss outpaced Troy on offense 421 to 309, but committed 16 penalties for 135 yards. For UK fans, the right guy won. We got a dub in Commonwealth, and seeing Shannon lose is a mini-dub in its own right, especially since he had the audacity (also: disrespectfulness) to say this: “Typically, if I have a good quarterback, I’m a pretty good coach. And typically, if I don’t, I’m not a very good coach.” A direct shot at Patrick Towles. Color me excited that Brown took down Dawson in a key mid-level conference matchup.
