Tuesday Tackles

Twenty Two Years And Counting As Navy celebrated their defeat of Notre Dame this season, it left UK with a streak that stands alone across the nation; although it is one that they would rather not own. Kentucky hasn't defeated the University of Tennessee in twenty two years. If that doesn't scream domination, I am not quite sure what will. Phillip Fulmer is 15-0 against the Cats since becoming the head man in Knoxville in 1992. There have been seasons where Kentucky not only could have won, but should have won. Just take last season, the Cats controlled the game for 35 plus minutes, but their lack of execution in the red zone cost them dearly in a 17-12 loss. You have to think that one of these seasons that the ball is going to bounce UK's way to allow the Cats to bring home the victory. But maybe that is the problem; maybe UK is waiting for something to happen instead of going out on the field and making it happen. This Kentucky team matches up extremely well with the Vols and has the opportunity to erase the embarrassment that comes with losing to a team every season for two plus decades. We will see soon enough. Another Three Star Commitment For The Cats New UK Commit Sean Stackhouse Just one day after discussing the recruiting ranking bump that three of UK's 2008 commits received, the Cats pick up another three star stud in Jacksonville, Fla. Mandarin High School TE Sean Stack house (6'4 245). Stackhouse held offers from Miami (Fl), East Carolina, Duke, Georgia, and South Florida. Our man Rob Gidel broke the news here last night as the Cats have gone down to Florida and snatched a recruit away from the Hurricanes. That is something that would have never happened in recent seasons. Just goes to show further proof of not only the addition of Jimmy Heggins being a major plus for coaching, but also recruiting as well as he covers the Florida region. Miserable Day...For Masthay Tim Masthay has improved his punting skills dramatically since his true freshman season in 2004. Yet there are still days when everything just seems to go wrong. You don't have to look any further than Saturday's 24-13 loss to Georgia to find a perfect example of that description. Masthay punted seven times with a terrible average of 30.3 yards per punt. The inconsistent day cost the Cats desperate field position that they needed with the offense struggling for most of the afternoon. I thought Masthay was past performances like the one he had on Saturday in Athens, but it showed he still has a lot to learn in technique before he can become a consistent 45 plus yard per punt kicker. Tim is a hard worker and will get better, but it was very frustrating watching kick after kick travel no where. Cats In SEC Stats After eleven games in the 2007 season, three Cats stand in the top of the SEC in their respective statistics. They are as follows: (*) Andre Woodson is currently #1 Passing yards per game with a 265.5 average. Andre has now thrown for 30 touchdowns compared to 8 interceptions. (*) Wesley Woodyard currently stands #1  in tackles with 113 stops. Wesley averages a gaudy 10.3 tackles per game. (*) Jeremy Jarmon is second in the league in sacks with nine for the season.
