The path is clearing for the Cats vs. the Tar Heels in Las Vegas. UCLA just announced that its game vs. North Carolina in the CBS Sports Classic is off due to COVID-19 “developments” within the program. Neither Kentucky nor North Carolina have announced anything, but Jeff Goodman and Matt Norlander that the matchup will happen, likely at 5:30 p.m. ET. Both teams are already in Vegas.

What do we know about the Tar Heels? Roy Williams is no longer their coach, for starters. Hubert Davis took over for Williams, who announced his retirement in April. North Carolina is 8-2 this season, with losses to then-No. 6 Purdue (93-84) and then-No. 17 Tennessee (89-72). Their best win? A 72-51 thumping of then-No. 24 Michigan. The Tar Heels are 30th in the NET Rankings, which would make this a Quad 1 game, which Kentucky needs for its resume.

By the way, longtime KSR fans will be happy to know Fake Barney is currently en route to Nashville alongside his wife, a Tar Heels fan, for a holiday weekend. I’m sure he’s taking this news well.
