At Paul Laurence Dunbar high school on Wednesday night, the two schools raised over $3,000 for Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation. The event was held to honor former WKU volleyball player Alyssa Cavanaugh, who is currently battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a disease she was diagnosed with back in Sept. of 2018. https://twitter.com/KentuckyVB/status/1164349197442793472 The Wildcats did come away with the "win", taking down the Hilltoppers in four sets with a 3-1 advantage. https://twitter.com/WKUVolleyball/status/1164294811710607360 "For someone who has given so much to the sport of volleyball in the state of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University," said Kentucky head coach Craig Skinner. "We hope that this small gesture of ours can go a long way in helping the fight against cancer." Here's a little bit more information about the foundation:
"The Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation (BMCF) offers financial assistance and free support services to cancer and transplant patients and their families. The BMCF relies 100% on private donations to provide these vital services. Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation is the only organization of its kind that does not limit assistance to a specific disease, type of transplant, or age range." Per the NCAA's website.
