UK and WKU Volleyball Raise Over $3,000 for Cancer Research

It was a preseason exhibition game between the University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University volleyball teams, but the game wasn't about who won or lost.
At Paul Laurence Dunbar high school on Wednesday night, the two schools raised over $3,000 for Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation. The event was held to honor former WKU volleyball player Alyssa Cavanaugh, who is currently battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a disease she was diagnosed with back in Sept. of 2018.

The Wildcats did come away with the "win", taking down the Hilltoppers in four sets with a 3-1 advantage.

"For someone who has given so much to the sport of volleyball in the state of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University," said Kentucky head coach Craig Skinner. "We hope that this small gesture of ours can go a long way in helping the fight against cancer."
