After a close loss yesterday, the Bat ‘Cats have evened the series against Ball State.

Junior Austin Schultz started hot for the Wildcats with a single before stealing second and third base. After a Oraj Anu homer to centerfield, Schultz crossed home plate to give the ‘Cats an early 2-0 lead. Kentucky would never trail. Schultz stole a career-best three bases.

Sophomore shortstop Ryan Ritter added his first career home run in the second inning to extend the Kentucky lead. Kentucky would go on to win 6-0. It was the second shutout in just eight games for the ‘Cats.

The 7-1 Wildcats were impressive on the mound, with senior Mason Hazelwood earning his second win in as many starts. Hazelwood  allowed just three hits and struck out six in 5.1 innings before giving way to senior right-hander Daniel Harper. Freshman Seth Logue closed for the ‘Cats, striking out six batters.

Kentucky will look to win the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Kentucky Proud Park.
