UK Fan of the Day Wants Afternoon Notes

Good afternoon, KSR readers. Remember afternoon notes? Let’s bring some back today.

Once a staple around here, the “Fan(s) of the Day Want(s) Afternoon Notes” used to be the lifeblood of afternoon content at KSR. It was a quick splattering of whatever was on the author’s mind and what was in the news, accompanied by a photo of a UK fan or fans. In today’s rebirth of one of the site’s greatest hits, I picked a gentleman from the crowd at Kentucky’s six-interception game against Mississippi State because I like his cowboy hat. It’s a great hat. Really, the whole hat/mask/vintage sweatshirt look kills it here. If we had a fashion award he for sure would get nominated.

Anyway, some news rehashing randomness…

— Big news for UK Women’s Basketball today as Maryland transfer Olivia Owens was given immediate eligibility and cleared to play for the upcoming season. At 6-foot-4, Owens brings more size to Coach Mitchell’s frontcourt while making one of Mitchell’s best UK rosters even better. It should be a big year for the Cats.

Sarr Watch: KSR expects Olivier will get a similar ruling to Olivia’s now that the NCAA is allowing an extra year of eligibility for winter athletes. With two years of eligibility to play at UK, Sarr fits within the SEC’s requirement for transfers. Get it done, SEC.

— The Free Money Podcast is currently on standby as conflicting schedules have us struggling to nail down a time to record. We are not giving up, but at the time of writing this post we have not yet recorded this week’s episode. For the record, our friend Phil Steele likes Tennessee to cover the spread this week.

— Also due to a scheduling conflict, there is no NFL Thursday Night Football game tonight. Tonight’s Chiefs-Bills game was moved to Sunday because the Bills need more than two days rest between games. Hold your Titans complaints, please.

— On today’s show, Matt Jones raised the question, “Will you cheer for Rick Pitino at Iona?” Place your vote to view the results so far.

— Seen the new hype video for Saturday’s game yet? It’s linked below.

— Netflix recommendation: “The Haunting of Bly Manor” is terrifying, but good. 35-year-old man here, unapologetically admitting that I have trouble walking through my own home after watching an episode of Netflix’s second season of its “The Haunting” series. The show is a follow-up to the equally-frightening “The Haunting of Hill House,” and though much of the cast is the same, the two stories do not intertwine (to my knowledge through three episodes). So if you’re looking for something to watch this Halloween, dial up “The Haunting of Bly Manor” or its predecessor, “The Haunting of Hill House.”

I would also like some fall television recommendations in return if you have any because there is nothing else to do.

Speaking of fall, Matt roasted my pumpkin collection on Wednesday’s show but I think it’s a good haul of pumpkins that were grown locally at Bi-Water Farm in Georgetown. You can also roast my pumpkin setup in the comments section if you’d like.

And before you get any crazy ideas, you should know those pumpkins are heavily-guarded thanks to Silent Guard and its home security service. Silent Guard is a family business based out of Somerset (location of our Game of the Week) that’s expanding into the Lexington market and they’ve done stuff with KSR in the past, including building Ryan’s jail at KSBar and Grille. This small pumpkin bit has somehow turned into an ad for Silent Guard but I’m rolling with it… Consider Silent Guard for your pumpkin-guarding (and home protection) needs. Ryan uses them too to protect his home and that sweet new swimming pool.

— Don’t forget a Keeneland BETologist will be at KSBar and Grille during the UK-Tennessee game on Saturday and YOU CAN BET. You cannot bet on football because it’s illegal but Keeneland will have a representative there to take your action on the races and the BETologist will be on hand to give tips and answer any questions. It should be a good time in Lexington as the Cats and Vols go to battle down in Knoxville.

— Finally, I owe an apology to the Atlanta Braves organization and its fans. After carrying around my lucky Mark Lemke card all day on Wednesday, I lost track of time prior to last night’s first pitch, and as you saw, the game was over in a hurry. My hand is up. That one was completely on me as the Lemke card fell to 7-1 this postseason. My stomach is in a knot thinking the luck may now be irreversibly cursed. Big bounce-back game tonight in Game 4.
