UK Fan of the Day Wants Notes from Cal's Press Conference

Last night's loss sucked, but the Kentucky crowd in Stegeman Coliseum did not. I'd estimate that the crowd (which was very sparse on the Georgia side) was about 50% blue, and when the Cats made a rally late in the second half, they made themselves heard with a resounding "GO BIG BLUE" chant. The lady with the poster pictured above was particularly awesome. She said she wanted to get a fat head made of her own herself but ran out of time, so she decided to make this sign so her mother could spot her in the crowd. Cal met with the media this afternoon to preview tomorrow's do-or-die game against Florida. Here are some soundbites: "It's a one-game season and it will be from here on out." Cal always has a theme. Today's was that the Cats have a "one-game season" left to prove themselves to the Selection Committee and keep playing. He downplayed the notion that if Kentucky had won at Georgia last night they would be in: "To be truthful, even if we beat Georgia, we still had to win this game." Survival Mode The staff has been high on the "one game at a time" mentality all season, but perhaps the sense of urgency brought on by recent losses will shake them out of their slump. Cal compared the Cats' plight to a person drowning: "If I go under again, I'm going to drown." Kentucky only has two options right now: deal with the adversity or, simply put, "die." "We're up against it. Are you willing to ball?" If this group fails and crumbles under the pressure? Then maybe they're not supposed to be here. "When this type of game comes, this is what playing at Kentucky is all about. Go ball." Few things have helped this group more this season than the Rupp Arena crowd. Cal said he's not worried that the noon tip time will damper the crowd's enthusiasm: "They'll be there. I'm not worried about our crowd. That's the least of my worries." Jarrod Polson and Jon Hood graduating One unexpected bit of news from Cal was that redshirt junior Jon Hood and junior Jarrod Polson will also be graduating this year, along with undergrad assistant Marquis Estill. It's still unknown whether or not they will join Julius Mays and Twany Beckham in the Senior Day festivities. UPDATE: A UK spokesman says that while Hood, Polson and Estill are on track to graduate this May, only Beckham and Mays are participating in Senior Day ceremonies.
