UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes

by:Matt Jones03/29/10
hairydude It is still a depressing day in UK land, but we are slowly moving forward. There still is a lot to be happy about and awards and good news should start coming in quickly. Some notes: --- The big news of the day is that John Wall and Demarcus Cousins were both named AP First Team All Americans. For those of you that dont know, this is the BIG award and the one that is official and lasts throughout history. The Cats havent had a first teamer since 1997 and it is the first time EVER that two Freshmen have been named to the team from the same school. Patrick Patterson was also named as an honorable mention. --- I spoke to Jim O'Connell of the AP on Saturday, and he told me that he had presented the awards to Wall and Cousins on Friday (I was sworn to secrecy on letting it out...even though I wanted to). The "Oc" as Tony Kornheiser calls him, probably knows (along with Dick "Hoops" Weiss) more about college basketball and its history than anyone writing. He is a treasure trove of knowledge and he loves the sport. He said, "those kids have been treated unfairly by some of the media. Those are great kids and I think the world of both of them." He then recounted that when he told Wall about his honor and then about Cousins, "Wall was even happier for Cousins than he was for himself. It was really great to see." A nice tidbit from a great moment for both of those guys. --- We gotta give love to the UK Women's team who will play for the Final Four on Tuesday, when they take to the court versus Oklahoma. The UK women's team was VERY impressive last night in the win over Nebraska and the way they push the ball and control tempo is quite impressive. I have watched all of the Tennessee and Nebraska games from the postseason and I have to say that this team is FUN to watch. All of the Big Blue Nation needs to rally around this group tomorrow night for what could be a win for the ages. --- CJ Leslie announced that he will visit Florida on April 17 after the Jordan Game and then decide soon after. In addition, Josh Selby told the Kansas website Theshiver.com that he is going to try and visit UK in the next two weeks. Finally, Brandon Knight will decide on April 14th, on a day that KSR will get tested to the limits in terms of its server. There are your recruiting notes for the afternoon. --- I know everyone wants info on who will stay and who will go. I am going to do a post on that later tonight, but everyone should just let the process play out. A couple of decisions are still to be made and there are some wildcards floating out there. But in the end, next year Calipari will put a team on the floor that will be very good. I am going to do an END OF THE SEASON LIVE BLOG tonight at 7:30 pm. We will discuss who is going, who is coming and more tidbits from Syracuse. Hope you will check it out.
