UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes

by:Matt Jones08/30/10
birthday The above four ladies helped celebrate with the KSR crew Saturday night, so welcome them as Fans of the Day. A few notes from the afternoon: --- The depth chart was released and for me, the most disappointing part was the inability of Joe Mansour to crack any job. Not only will he not be a starter at any position, he wasnt even named the backup at the FG kicker position. Mansour is one of the best kicking prospects UK has ever brought into campus and while the Cats should be fine this year with Ryan Tydlacka, it is a bit distressing that he hasnt made more of an impact early on. Joker Phillips talked a bit about Mansour last week and seemed to suggest there was a mechanics issue that needed changing for Mansour. They are very high on him in the future, but I had four years of kicking goodness penciled in going forward. Here is hoping that Mansour gets UK to that point soon. --- When Luke "My name is not Jake" Mcdermott won the starting DT position, it gained much of the news from the depth chart being released. But the pick of Jacob Dufresne at LB is also very important. UK wanted to see Dufresne step up this year and the battle with Ridge Wilson obviously brought out the best in him. Both of those guys will play a great deal but for UK to be good, the Linebackers must play well, especially because of how thin the front four will be. Dufresne and Ronnie Sneed have a lot of pressure on them, and the Louisville game will tell us how they respond. --- Randall Cobb and Dequin Evans are team captains this year and Mike Hartline/Ricky Lumpkin will have the position for the Louisville game. --- Hope you heard Evan Daniels today on the radio show talk about the uniqueness of the Kyle Wiltjer commitment. It marks a number of interesting storylines, including the fact that Kyle didnt visit, is a Kyle Singler type player and is one of the first scholarship white players Calipari has had commit since his UMASS days. Calipari was thrilled about the commitment at the Rich Brooks dinner (if his face was any indication) and now he likely will get one more piece (probably in the Spring) to finish what may be the greatest recruiting class of all time. --- The announcers for Saturday's game vs Louisville are Dave Lamont and JC Pearson. I have no idea who either of those guys are. More later today...The return of John Wilkinson (the Intern) and more.
