UK Fan of the Day Wants Afternoon Notes

by:Thomas Beisner01/14/11
baby-fan-of-the-day  A few notes on a sloooooooooow day, our first  in life A.C. (after Cobb)....  - With LSU being a relatively unknown and poor basketball team, there hasn't been a lot of buzz or notable quotes from either side leading up to the game.  LSU coach Trent Johnson tuned his voice and spoke with the media today, offering little of substance, but providing a fairly amusing quote by saying, "My goodness it seems like (Josh) Harrellson, (Darius) Miller and (DeAndre) Liggins have been there forever."  Considering there might not be a school in America with more "they're still in school?" players in its history, I thought Johnson's assessment was humorous.  - Johnson also said that the Tigers will likely continue to play a zone , which was something they started showing more after struggling to keep players out of the paint.  Against a UK team that attacks off the dribble from every position, the Tigers will likely go with the defense heavily.  And, as Johnson noted, with eight players currently receiving some sort of treatment for injuries, it's essentially a necessity.  - With the return of Danny Trevathan and Winston Guy, UK's defense will essentially remain intact for the first year under Rick Minter, meaning the impact of the new defensive coordinator should be fairly evident next season.  If his new in-your-face style is truly what the doctor ordered on that side of the ball, there's no reason for the results to not be there.   - For those wondering if the commitment of Marcus Caffey would impact Josh Forrest, fear not.  According to Cats Pause, Forrest remains "110%" committed to the Cats and will be a part of a group of important targets that will visit this weekend.  Trayion Durham, the nation's third-best fullback will be on campus, as well as three-star tight end Alvin Dupree and three-star linebacker Jaiari Dunaway.  The Cats will also host committed players Demarco Robinson, Theltus Cobbins, Eric Dixon and Christian Coleman.  I hope they ordered an extra pan of Ortmayer's Surprise to the recruiting room. In case you missed it this morning, make sure you check out the podcast of Kentucky Sports Radio (I know it's not up yet, hopefully will be soon, so please be patient).  Matt and EZ welcomed Jon Rothstein, who took about two breaths in telling you how freakin' awesome he is while peppering in a few basketball points.  A solid show to end the week.  Check it out.
