UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes

by:Thomas Beisner01/27/11
kcd-kidskcd-kids2 A few midday notes on a day that's provided a little excitement so far...  - Not surprisingly, the arena issue was a bit of a hot button topic and people had opinions all over the place.  I will say, though, I was surprised at how many people thought Rupp Arena is fine with just renovations.  It might be a vocal minority, but some of the comments did surprise me.  I thought the support for a new facility would be more unanimous.  - As we get closer to National Signing Day, Kentucky continues to hone in on targets for the 2011 class.  Steve Jones of the CatsPause reports today that do-everything athlete Bubba Tandy will visit UK this weekend.  Tandy haisl from Hopkinsville and is rated by Rivals as a three-star prospect.  He's also considering Marshall.   - With all of the talk about Jon Dais recently, the speculation on Boyle County linebacker Lamar Dawson has taken a bit of a back seat.  Not with the pride of Boyle County, Larry Vaught, though.  Vaught placed odds on where the Army All-American would land and made UK the favorite at 4-1, followed by Tennessee, Oregon, USC and Central Florida.  He will announce at 9am on Signing Day.  - In case not having CBS College Sports kept you from watching Jimmer Fredette put together a video game-like stat line of 43 points and 0 assists, just turn on your computer or TV and you'll be sure to hear about it roughly 5,000 times.  The unfortunate thing about stories like this, much like Boise State, is that the media is going to beat you down with it until you don't even want to root for him anymore.  The need to fill space and fill it rapidly often comes with that side effect (we're guilty of it too) and I fear Jimmer is heading down that path.  Andy Katz said last night that Jimmer's performance was particularly outstanding because he "played through a Wolverine-like scratch on his shoulder".  Yes, a scratch.  Still love you, Jimmer.  Especially at the 3:45 mark.  - Also, on another non-UK note, Jeff Eisenberg of The Dagger caught up with "The Jewish Jordan", Tamir Goodman.  Goodman, you might remember, gained fame nationwide as a senior in high school when he averaged 38 points per game and committed to Maryland.  He later ended up at Towson after the Terps couldn't change their schedule to avoid playing on the Sabbath.  Good read on a slow day of UK news. If you missed the show this morning, make sure you listen to the podcast below.  Matt and Zach talk about last night's hoops action, Larry Brown at UK and the potential names of a new arena. Make sure you check it out.
