UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes

by:Thomas Beisner02/21/11
ukfans A few notes on a beautiful Monday morning....  - The only other notable thing to come out of Calipari's turn on the SEC Coaches Teleconference today besides his reasoning for not letting the bench log some minutes during the blowout of South Carolina was his take on Josh Harrellson's game Saturday. Calipari said that he was originally frustrated a bit with Jorts' effort against the Gamecocks, but looked at the tape and came away impressed with what he saw. Cal said he was initially frustrated with his lone senior missing some easy shots, but the film revealed that he put bodies on guys to grab rebounds, helped his teammates and passed the ball well. Cal noted that Harrellson's success is due to him being in great shape and the confidence he's built through "demonstrated performance". He said that Josh is building his own self-confidence. If only his Twitter account were around to see it...  - The new polls were released this morning and UK stayed at #22 in both.  Florida moved up to #13 in the coaches poll, followed by the SEC's other representative, Vanderbilt, at #18.  Lousiville ranks 16th.  The AP voters put them all in the same position.  Followers.  - Tom Leach had Dick Vitale on The Leach Report this morning and the loudest voice in college basketball again took the time to talk about how Enes Kanter got robbed out of playing this year and voiced optimism for the team going forward.  As is the case whenever he joins the Voice of the Wildcats, it made for solid radio.  He even talked about our little contest a bit.  You can listen here.  - With their season just getting underway and expectations again high, the UK launched an interactive website for the baseball team, which, like the previous interactive site, is aimed at potential recruits.  It has all the fancy bells and whistles you don't get here at Kentucky Sports Radio, with the obvious advantage of having no insight from Bryan The Intern.  Seems like a win-win.  You can see it here.  - Speaking of the baseball team, junior pitcher Alex Meyer was named National Player of the Week by Louisville Slugger.  The 6'9" righthander struck out thirteen batters against Miami of Ohio Sunday.  If he can rebound and defend, we could be in business.  - In what seems to be a recurring issue these days, another Kansas Jayhawk found himself in some trouble.  Tyshawn Taylor was suspended indefinitely by Bill Self Monday for the always vague "violation of team rules".  Taylor, you might remember, was suspended last year for fighting with the football team.  The Jayhawks also suspended Mario Little earlier this year when he was arrested after a domestic disturbance.  Finally, if you missed Kentucky Sports Radio this morning, you deprived your ears of the Turkey Hunter and Matt and Zach talking all things UK sports.  Make sure you give the podcast a listen below.
