Today we found ourselves in Somerset, where over 100 people turned out at the local Mr. Gatti's to hear us talk about Kentucky sports and Ryan Lemond's personal life. It was a great crowd and showcased once again that South Central Kentucky seems to be prime KSR territory. The Somerset Mayor honored me by naming me a Somerset Colonel, the Pulaski County Judge Executive did the same as a Pulaski County Colonel and we even had a local who looked like an extra from the cast of "Sons of Anarchy" join us. It was a very fun show and a very fun trip from the home of the Warriors, Maroons and Brian Jumpers. Tomorrow it is Lexington where we stop, at the Tap Room from the Whitaker Bank Ballpark (home of the Lexington Legends). It will be a packed show, with appearances live from John Short, UK Coach Jon Lipsitz and Gregg Doyel on the phone talking about the UNC scandal. Come see us. --- The biggest story of the day doesn't come from UK land, but rather from the world of North Carolina, where Gregg Doyel lay the smacketh downeth on UNC, suggesting that there should be "banners taken down from the Smith Center" for the academic scandal on campus. If you haven't followed the story, the basics are that a number of UNC football and basketball players took fraudulent classes on campus in order to stay eligible and the cheating has been alleged to be systematic. The question is now whether the NCAA will do anything. After months of this story staying on the periphery, the UNC website accidentally released Julius Peppers' transcript online and now the story is front and center. My question is simply this...where have the college reporters that specialize in investigations of major institutions been on this story? Where is Pat Forde, Pete Thamel, Jeff Goodman, Gary Parrish, Yahoo Sports, etc, on what has the potential to be one of the biggest cases of academic fraud in college sports history? The answer is that they are probably busy (a) complaining about UK's non-conference schedule; (b) trying to make Enes Kanter triply ineligible to play; and (c) doing polls looking for "suspected" cheaters. It will be interesting to see if this column by Doyel kicks them into gear.
--- You may have heard us last week on the show in Jamestown talking about the event for the young woman who was murdered there just a few months ago. The "Run With All Your Hart" event was a tremendous success and even got a visit from the UK mascot. A great thing by a great community in honor of a great person:
--- No matter what one writes about UK football, someone is unhappy. When you are too optimistic, people complain that you are simply a mouthpiece for the University and won't say what is "really" going on. And when you express concerns, you don't support UK and aren't a "real fan." For the latter group, this article on SBNation.com is sure to ruffle feathers. It is by Bill Connelly of Football Outsiders (who does really good work) and is essentially taking the viewpoint that Kentucky is going to be worse this year and in so doing, puts everyone at UK in a bad spot. I have said all along that I think it will be difficult for UK to make a bowl and their record may not be improved. But I do believe the team will be better and there is reason for small drops of optimism. But I also respect Connelly's work and to be fair, reading it can be slightly depressing.

It showcases our rise to the top, the emergence from a sea of haters and the special moments that have made up these last three years. I will be honest, watching the video made it a little dusty in the KSR compound. I have been working on a post on the "Best Moments of the Calipari Era" and nearly all I would put in are in this video. If you haven't watched it, do so. If you have, send it to your friend. Nothing better showcases the beauty of UK basketball and the ride of the last three years than this.
