UK Fans of the Day Want Some Saturday Stories

by:Matt Jones04/14/12
Today was a great day in Big Blue Land...the Cats are still celebrating their titles, we got to see the future players in the Jordan Classic and I shot my best round of golf in two years (a very solid 77 at my home course of Oxmoor Country Club). But there were other small stories (with pictures): --- The biggest story of the day was the completion of the domination of the SEC by the UK Men's Tennis Team. The group finished an undefeated conference run today by beating Vanderbilt and winning the conference title. Senior Eric Quigley finished his season undefeated and is likely to pick up a number of post season honors after the SEC Tournament. We congratulate the team on its record run and wish them well as they go for a SEC Tournament championship and a run in the NCAA Tournament as well. --- Darius Miller is on his autograph tour and he stopped by Pikeville today, just two days after Calapalooza was in town. As you can see, he got a great crowd and by all indications it was a big success. More dates are upcoming and we will have them here as they are announced. --- The above picture is the only time that I know of that a horse's rear end has been featured on this site, except when we highlight Pete Thamel posts. At the Bluegrass Stakes, the favorite Hansen had a blue tail for a period of time, and many report it was due to the national championship for UK (some say it wasn't, but since I dont know I will assume they were Louisville fans and that they are dirty liars). Either way, the folks at Keeneland said it was a violation, and a furious washing of the tail took place. Either way, Hansen did not win and was caught down the stretch. Still the Derby looks like it will be loaded this year and a must-watch. --- According to KentuckyCEO on Twitter (who I don't know but one day Drew, Beisner and I realized that we all followed him and had no idea how or who he is), Eloy Vargas went to the prom in Bowling Green. He apparently was doing a signing there, and a girl came up and said she had no prom date and wanted to know if Eloy would go with her. Eloy said yes and the rest is the stuff of 80s high school movie magic. Finally, I will have a couple of extensive running diaries on the site this week from the Trophy Tour on Thursday and Friday. A ton of great stories and anecdotes occurred on the trip and I will be sharing them on here and on the radio show. It was a great event and a true example of how yes, Calipari does "get it." It also produced this photo by Chet White, which to me sums up what UK basketball is about. The picture of Calipari, his wife, Assistant Coach John Robic, the trophy, the fans and the beautiful mountains in the backdrop should be in future UK basketball guides and materials for years to come. A great picture from a great event:
