—  Another Big Blue Madness visitor.  The guest list continues to grow for next Friday’s Big Blue Madness.  Adam Zagoria reports New Jersey big man Nick Richards will be attending the annual phenomenon.

Last week Richards took an official visit to Kentucky’s campus, spending plenty of time with Malik Monk, Wenyen Gabriel and Isaiah Briscoe.  When he returns to Lexington there will be many other elite prospects in town: forward P.J. Washington, point guard Quade Green, forward Kevin Knox, and point guard Tremont Waters, just to name a few.

—  James Whalen named Kentucky’s SEC Legend.  The NCAA record books were changed after Whalen thrived in the Air Raid.  He’ll be recognized for his accomplishments at the SEC Championship Game as Kentucky’s legend on the gridiron.

A First Team All-American in 1999, Whalen set the NCAA record for most receptions by a tight end in a season with 90.  The former walk-on was this guy’s favorite player that year.  I still remember the tears falling down my face after he injured his elbow/shoulder in the Music City Bowl, screaming, “They cheated! THEY CHEATED DAD!”

—  It’s Homecoming Week.  I still don’t understand why homecoming still exists.  I enjoyed “protecting” the fraternity house float as much as any young college kid, but I still don’t get it.  If you’re not like me and enjoy homecoming festivities, there is an alumni association tailgate starting at 1:30 on the corner of Cooper and University.  For more info on festivities, click here.

More football news and notes from the practice fields are on the way shortly.
