UK Getting ESPN Football Love

by:Christopher Johns11/25/09
brooks While we are ramping up for the big basketball game tonight, I thought I would toss a few ESPN football links your way. Chris Low is the ESPN blogger/journalist that they assign to cover the SEC. Even though his roots are in Tennessee, he consistently provides a wealth of information and seems to be fairly even handed with his criticism. He is also the type to post updates during games which means he watches almost every SEC game. It is something I wish more journalists did before they opine. This week, in his hot/not list, Low begins by tabbing Rich Brooks 'en fuego'. Dan Patrick likes that type of synergy, Chris. He also lists Locke as one of the 'hot' players and calls him "one of the most underrated players in the conference." Low also posted a pretty decent snapshot of Brooks' contributions to both Kentucky and the SEC as the Cats focus on beating the Volunteers this weekend. Things then get a little wobbly for Low. In his weekly picks column, he forgets the accolades he heaped upon the Wildcats, and his failure to pick UK last week, and picks Tennessee to win the game 24-20. UK is currently a 3 point dog, so he even thinks we will fail to beat the spread. Overall, I love this kind of positive national coverage. We weren't getting anything close to this 5-10 years ago (in relation to football). It is a testament to the effect that Brooks has had on the program that outlets like ESPN are forced to recognize the team and the coach in such a positive manner. Now somebody tack his lame prediction on a bulletin board and let's get fired up for some football. Go Big Blue.
