UK Hoops Defeats Alabama

If there is anything I have learned from the comments section love of Kate, it’s that we don’t have enough women on this site. Let me correct that today. The Women’s basketball team that started off 11-0, is now 3 and 3 after losing their first game to Middle Tennessee State. All is not lost, though, as the lady cats just whupped up on the lady Alabama Mascot That-Doesn’t-Sound-Good-With-The-Word-Lady-In-Front-Of-It by a score of 88 to 63.

Our women have been somewhat of a surprise for most the fans this season, though not a surprise to those that follow the program. While there was some uncertainty initially about Mathew Mitchell’s job with UK Hoops, he has steadily begun to recruit better and consequently compete better. Interestingly enough, though, his team this season is without a true post player. This has lead to a more determined effort on defense, forcing their opponents to commit close to twenty six turnovers a game. Perhaps our guys could learn a thing or two from their defensive intensity.

While the Ladies haven’t quite had the same spark they exhibited early on, they are only a missed shot away from being 3-1 in the SEC, and at this point have their future in their own hands.  If you were ever curious about checking the girls out, this might be the year to do it.  They play Tennessee, which is always a good game, in Knoxville this year so if you want to check out a fun one I suggest Florida on Feb 18. Partially because the Florida Kentucky rivalry is fun in all sports, and partially because Florida doesn’t look to be that good this year.

Go Hoops.

Also, if you haven’t yet, please think about donating to Hoops for Haiti.
