Marshall County Pur-tiss-uh-pent and UK target Nick Johnson; Beckham Drops 24

by:Dustin Rumbaugh12/02/09
With the exception of a few players, the state of Kentucky isn't exactly known for the most athletic players. Shooters, fun-duh-mentals, and crayft-i-nuss are what we usually get to see. That'll change when Nick Johnson of Findlay Prep invades Marshall County this weekend for the Hoopfest. This major 2011 UK target is easily one of the more exciting players on the circuit. You can see for yourself in Marshall County's gym on Friday at 10:00 pm CST or Saturday at 9:30 CST and get a little app-uh-teaser above. If you want more you can look him up on Youtube, there's plenty. -------------------- Also, I had the chance to see Jaylen Beckham again last night when his Lexington Catholic team traveled up my way to play the Covington Catholic Colonels. First off, the CovCath crowd is probably having more fun than any crowd in the nation right now, college teams included. After starting off the varsity game with a sing and dance along to Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" (screaming "...and the Jay-Z song was on") they didn't stop the rest of the way. We need to box them up and ship them all to the Erupption Zone. Stop by and check out the CovCath crowd if you get a chance. They bring the ridiculousness that KSR fans tend to love. Jaylen did his best to silence the crazy home crowd, to no avail. They continued even as he dropped 24 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals during a 20+ point win. After scoring a quick 11 points in the first quarter, Jaylen played very unselfishly the rest of the way and may have had a few more assists if his nice setups were finished off. Although he didn't shoot the lights out, scoring most of his points by getting to the rack with ease, I did like seeing him sink a deep three from the top of the key. His quickness off the dribble and good court vision give him all the tools he needs to develop into a top of the line point guard. Get that jump shot completely online and he would be very dangerous. Notes:

- 2011's Maurice Harkless will be narrowing his list down to six schools this weekend according to Northstar Basketball. UK is one of twelve schools he is considering.

- Quincy Miller put in 15 points in a recent Quality Education match up with Victory Christian, according to Scout.com. Kentucky was in attendance at Quincy's game and, don't forget, Quincy will be returning that favor this weekend by coming into Lexington on Friday and staying for the UNC game on Saturday.

- From Scout.com's Around the Nation, we get the following point totals for UK targets: Brandon Knight 25 (in 59-12 win!), Terrence Jones 36 (W 91-69), Deuce Bello 32 (W 91-74)
