UK Swimmer Asia Seidt is the SEC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year

The University of Kentucky's most decorated swimmer has added a prestigious honor to her crowded trophy case.
Tuesday morning UK swimmer Asia Seidt and LSU men's basketball member Skylar Mays were named the the 2019-20 Southeastern Conference H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Along with a trophy, this honor comes with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. Seidt will use it to join UK's physical therapy program this fall while she trains for the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials.
“I am so honored to receive the Boyd McWhorter scholarship,” Seidt said. “The Southeastern Conference includes some of the most elite athletes in the world, and it has been incredible to be a part of the program for the past four years. I want to thank the athletic department, my coaches and my professors for giving me the opportunity to compete and study at the collegiate level. This scholarship will allow me to continue my education and pursue a career in the medical field. Finally, I want to thank my teammates that have supported me every step of the way.”
The Louisville native has a lengthy list of accomplishments as a UK swimmer. In her career Seidt has 21 All-American honors, 15 SEC Championship medals, eight NCAA Championship podium finishes and four conference titles, all high-water marks in the UK swimming record books. That does not include the five school records she holds, the Olympic Trials she previously qualified for, the one USA Swimming Summer Nationals gold medal and one World University Games silver medal.
First established in 1986, Seidt is just the third Wildcat to ever receive the McWorter Award, following Jeff Zurcher (football, 1999) and Chelsea Oswald (track and field, 2013).
