Unrequired Reading: The Malcolm Gladwell/Joey Harrington Connection

by:C.M. Tomlin01/02/09
In this doldrum kind of day, as the college football season officially winds down and we await tonight's matchup, I thought I'd throw this out there to those of you who are looking for something to kill time. The New Yorker, in December, ran an essay by author Malcolm Gladwell (Blink, The Tipping Point) concerning the psychological links between success in the schoolroom at a young age and the science behind successful college/NFL football recruiting and accomplishment. He focuses on Mizzou's Chase Daniels, our own Tim Couch gets a mention (though not a very glowing one), and it may be the first time you'll ever hear prose about someone getting misty over Joey Harrington. So check out this piece if you feel like it. It's called "Most Likely to Succeed." Or don't check it out. Doesn't matter to me.
