USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team Claims Gold Medal

The USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team defeated Canada 99-84 to claim the gold medal at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Valdivia, Chile on Saturday night. As one might expect where any collection of elite high school basketball talent is concerned, several Kentucky 2017 recruiting targets were in the thick of the action.
P.J. Washington of Frisco, Texas and Findlay Prep in Nevada poured in 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in a starting effort. The 6-foot-7 power forward is ranked No. 15 overall in the current 2017 247Sports Composite. Though thought to be a Texas lean, Kentucky is front and center in the recruiting battle.
Hamidou Diallo, one of only five United States players to score in double digits, posted 14 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Corona, N.Y. and Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut is the No. 8 overall player and top-ranked shooting guard in the 2017 class, as well as a heavy Kentucky favorite.
With five points and two assists in 18 minutes, Trae Young's performance was highlighted by a clutch three-pointer to tie the game with 3:51 remaining in the first half. The Norman, Okla. native is ranked No. 20 overall in the current 247Sports Composite, where Kentucky is thought to hold a slight edge with the 6-foot-1 point guard.
6-foot-11 power forward Mohamed Bamba from New York City and Westtown School in Pennsylvania added two points and seven rebounds in 11 minutes. The No. 3 overall player is predicted to favor Duke over Kentucky, but still holds the Wildcats as a final possibility.
Quade Green of Philadelphia contributed four points and two assists in just six minutes off the bench. The 6-foot-1 point guard is 247Sports Composite's No. 26 player in the class of 2017.
