Vegas still has Kentucky as the favorite to win the 2014 NCAA Title

The landscape of college basketball certainly became more balanced when Andrew Wiggins, the #1 recruit in the 2013 class, chose Kansas earlier today. Had Wiggins picked Kentucky, the Wildcats appeared to be nearly untouchable. Although Kentucky still has the most talent, and the #1 rated recruiting class, things remain a little closer at the top with the top 5-6 teams. According to Las Vegas odds in light of Wiggins' decision though, Kentucky still remains the favorite to win the 2014 national championship with 4-1 odds.  Kentucky  4-1 Kansas  10-1 Duke   12-1 Michigan State  12-1 Florida  12-1 Arizona  12-1 Louisville   12-1 Ohio State  15-1 North Carolina  15-1 Michigan  25-1 Syracuse  30-1 VCU  40-1 Gonzaga   75-1 .... Rhode Island  and Georgia, yes Georgia...500-1   The biggest winners from the Andrew Wiggins decision? - Obviously Kansas became a potential national title contender simply with the addition of the nation's top player. Kansas would not have had nearly enough pieces without him after losing a significant number of players from last year's roster. Kanas jumped from 30-1 odds in April to 25-1 odds on Monday. Today, 10-1 odds. #AndrewWigginsEffect - Duke, Michigan State, Florida, Arizona, Louisville, Ohio State... This group of teams would have been a major notch below Kentucky had the Wildcats added Andrew Wiggins to the roster. Without him, they are still not quite on Kentucky's level-- but they are certainly within striking distance.   The biggest losers from the Andrew Wiggins decision? - North Carolina and Florida State. Even though Kentucky would have benefited greatly from adding Wiggins, North Carolina could have really leapfrogged all of the teams mentioned above (Duke, Mich St, Louisville, etc) and joined Kentucky in the elite category for next season. Without Wiggins, UNC will still be in the mix, but they are probably 1 or 2 players away from really having enough to climb into the elite. Florida State essentially remains a non-factor in the national title picture without Wiggins. - Rhode Island and Georgia... Although likely not dependent on Wiggins' decision at all.
