While the kids are away, the coaches will work. This month Mark Stoops’ players are spending some much needed time away from Lexington, while his assistants search for the next group of Wildcats. Vince Marrow recently returned to a popular recruiting territory to meet with a few prospective players.

The Big Dog was in Cincinnati on Tuesday visiting Winton Woods High School. The Warriors have produced a couple of talented Wildcats in the past, Mike Edwards and Chris Oats. There could be a few more that follow in their footsteps.

Along with Cristian Conyer, one of Kentucky’s top 2023 cornerback prospects is Winton Woods’ Jermaine Mathews. A three-star prospect and top 10 player from the state of Ohio, Mathews already has official visits scheduled to Pitt and Cincinnati. Marrow actually arrived on campus the day after Mathews announced his intention to officially visit his hometown team. The Bearcats currently are the leaders in the clubhouse according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, but West Virginia is also lurking. A priority recruit for Kentucky, it’s imperative to get Mathews locked into an official visit in the near future.

He’s not the only cornerback at the school Kentucky has recruited. The Wildcats are also in talks with Cameron Calhoun. This three-star cornerback wanted to commit early. When UK asked him to pump the brakes, he committed to West Virginia. Calhoun should be considered a flip candidate down the road.

Of course, Marrow is not exclusively recruiting seniors-to-be. Raphael Greene is a 2025 prospect that Kentucky offered as a freshman. A 6-foot-6, 360-pound offensive tackle, Greene is already a monster of a man. The Big Dog is investing into Greene’s recruitment now before the offensive line blows up on the camp circuit this summer.

Kentucky football camps return in June with a pair of marquee Sunday night showcases for UK’s top prospects. KSR will be there June 5 and June 12 for all of the action. UK offers a variety of camps for football fans of all ages that are open for registration right now.
