One of the main reasons for Kentucky's recent recruiting surge? Vincent Marrow, the tight ends coach who came to Kentucky from Nebraska because of a close friendship with childhood friend Mark Stoops. Marrow made waves in recruiting for the Huskers because of his connections in Ohio, but I'm not sure anyone anticipated him doing what he's done so far at UK. Rivals.com agrees, naming Marrow one of their top recruiters in the SEC:
Vince Marrow, Kentucky Buzz: Kentucky didn't have a top class in the SEC, but the work Marrow did to close out the cycle was impressive. The most obvious was signing Marcus McWilson, a four-star safety and the first top 10 player from Ohio to sign with the Wildcats. More impressive, Marrow flipped McWilson from Big Ten power Nebraska. Marrow also instrumental in getting two other Ohio kids to sign. Three-star defensive back Jaleel Hytchye committed early to the new staff and was important in helping recruit other players. Three-star offensive lineman Kyle Meadows was as highly regarded an Ohio player as Kentucky had gotten in recent memory until McWilson.
On Signing Day, Marrow gave Cats fans this spine-tingling peek at what's to come: "We did this in six weeks. Give us a whole year..." Denzel Ware is one hell of a start.
