Discover Prestonsburg, the “Star City of Eastern Kentucky”. Whether you’re into outdoor adventure, musical entertainment, theatre, history or science, Prestonsburg has a little something for everyone.  Located along U.S. 23, the country music highway, Prestonsburg offers an array of musical entertainment.  The Mountain Arts Center is a performing arts venue that hosts the Billie Jean Osborne’s KY Opry.  Be mesmerized by the local talent on stage that will leave you understanding why we say, “There’s something in the water”.   The KY Opry kicks off June 17.  If you’re looking for just a relaxing music evening, checkout some of our local restaurants such as McGuire’s Brickhouse or Lizzie B’s on Friday and Saturday Nights that have local bands performing into the night.

Catch an outdoor theatre show at the Jenny Wiley Theatre this summer.  This year’s summer shows will include Tarzan and Madagascar.  Shows start June 23 for a magical experience under the stars.   For history buffs, educate yourselves at the Battle of Middlecreek, the largest Civil War battle in Eastern KY or tour through the Historic Samuel May House.  Explore the East Kentucky Science Center & Varia Planetarium one of the most technologically advanced planetariums in the nation.  You also don’t want to miss out on the Hubble Exhibit on display until September.

For the outdoor enthusiast, enjoy Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.  The park features plenty of hiking, biking, fishing, birding, boating opportunities and even elk tours during the fall & winter season.  Check out our newly created Sugar Camp Mountain Trails that add an additional 26 miles of mountain biking that are like no other in the region.  Like Kayaking? Experience our Levisa Fork PaddleFest, the fourth Saturday May – Sept., and kayak up the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River into Paintsville.  Of course no trip to Prestonsburg is complete without a trip to StoneCrest Golf Course, whether an avid golfer or just there to take in the views, this reclaimed strip mine is a beauty like no other.  Call Prestonsburg Tourism at 800-844-4704 or visit prestonsburgky.org for more information.

10. BatCats fall to Louisville

UK Athletics

After an exciting weekend in Lexington to make history and advance to their first super regional ever, Kentucky baseball fell flat in Louisville. The Cats lost 5-2 yesterday and 6-2 today, sending Kentucky home and UofL to their fourth College World Series. Losing is disappointing, but you can’t deny what these kids did this year was special.

9. 4×100 women’s team wins in Eugene

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Destiny Carter, Kayelle Clarke and Kianna Gray brought home a victory for the Cats yesterday in the 4×100 National Title race. The team completed the race with a 42.51 time, barely nudging out Alabama. Go Cats.

8. Women’s track just missed the podium

The team as a whole just barely missed the podium, coming in fourth behind Oregon (surprise), Georgia and Southern California. Still an awesome weekend for the women and an honor to compete in the events.

7. Kentucky’s first football camp of the Summer was yesterday

Camps bring in tons of recruits to Kentucky’s facilities and allows coaches to interact and give instruction to their top prospects. Commit Jarren Williams and many more attended the camp and Nick Roush has a recap for you here.

6. Go see Wonder Woman

Going to see movies is not something that I typically do, but if I do go, I have to know they’re worth it. I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things about Wonder Woman since its premier and yesterday I had to check it out for myself. And it was awesome. If you haven’t already seen it, I don’t really know what you’re doing, so go today (after you read KSR, of course.)

5. Further proof Nick Mingione is the best human ever

Coach could’ve been mad and upset after yesterday’s loss, but the man stayed positive and just continued to make the case as to why Mitch Barnhart deserves to give him a lifetime contract extension.

4. Stanley Cup Game 6 is tonight

The Stanley Cup playoffs return to Nashville as the Pens need one more win to finish off the Preds. Pittsburgh leads the series 3-2, and one more win would solidify them as Stanley Cup champions. However, the Smashville crowd roars and I have a feeling they’ll be going all out at 8 p.m.

3. Game 5 of the NBA finals is tomorrow

Hockey not your thing? Check out Game 5 of the NBA Finals tomorrow between the Warriors and the Cavs. The Warriors need one more win to be world champs again, but hey, we all remember what happened last year?

2. I laughed too hard at this guy

Poor dude never stood a chance.
