I realize Matt already did a 3-point line post. This is just an addendum. Consider it a long comment.
Anyway, the
New York Times also had a story about the shifting perimeter, and in it, they spoke briefly with VMI's head coach Duggar Baucom. The article outlines the new difficulties that will accompany the change, in particular teams' abilities to stretch the floor. VMI, who will start four guards, sees this as a weapon:
“That’s what we tell our guys,” said Baucom, the coach at Virginia Military Institute, which shot – and made – more 3-pointers than any team in history two seasons ago, and led the nation in the categories last season, too. “We’re harder to guard now because there’s more floor to cover.”
The Keydets have two of their conference's three leading scorers returning in Chavis and Travis Holmes, twins whose names I assume rhyme---which is awesome. As a team, VMI averaged just over 91 points a game last year, good for best in the country. Unfortunately for them, they weren't all that great at stopping other teams. A modern Loyola Marymount, I suppose. Well, without the success. VMI had a losing record last season, and has finished no better than 275th in the RPI over the last five years. Ouch.
Still, if Bo Kimble trots out of the tunnel Friday night, I am going to lose it.
