Warren County South forfeits Little League World Series following positive COVID-19 test

Just a few days into their LLWS run, Warren County South is being forced out of the tournament.

Ahead of Wednesday afternoon’s matchup, the Warren County South Little League All-Stars announced that they would have to forfeit the remainder of the event due to at least one positive COVID-19 test within the team. In a press release, Little League International notified Warren County South of the decision to remove them from the Great Lakes Region of the tournament as a result of the positive test(s).

“The team members and their families have been informed of all appropriate health measures to help ensure all individuals are cared for, and that appropriate isolation and quarantine efforts are being followed,” the statement said.

The Warren County South Little League All-Stars have had at least one positive COVID-19 test at the Great Lakes Region Tournament. As a result, Little League International notified the team it will no longer be able to participate in the tournament.

Warren County South was supposed to take on Ohio’s West Side Little League squad later on Wednesday at 2 p.m. However, as a result of the forfeit, Ohio will now automatically advance to the top four of the Great Lakes Region.

Prior to the forfeit, Warren County South beat Wisconsin’s Elmbrook National Little League by a final score of 10-0 on Tuesday in the opening round of the elimination bracket. To open up their LLWS run on Sunday, Warren County South beat the same Ohio team they would have faced on Wednesday. Unfortunately, Warren County would drop their next outing against Illinois, placing them in the elimination bracket before easily moving past Wisconsin.

Sadly, the Kentucky-based group won’t have the chance to advance out of the Great Lakes Region.
