Nobody deserved this moment more than Kentucky Women’s Basketball junior forward Dre’Una Edwards.

On Sunday afternoon, Edwards drilled the go-ahead, game-winning 3-point shot that allowed her Wildcats to upset the No. 1 team in the nation, South Carolina, by a final score of 64-62 and subsequently win the program’s first SEC Tournament championship since 1982. But I’m going to shut up now and roll the film that I know you’re here to watch.

Not only was it the biggest shot of Edwards’ career, but it was also arguably the greatest shot in the history of the program considering the context. Kentucky was out of the projected NCAA Tournament field just three weeks ago but has since won 10 games in a row, including four in four days this past weekend. This run has been completely improbable and one of the more impressive turnarounds you’ll ever see in college basketball.

But for Edwards individually, this shot was more than a game-winner, it was validation of everything she’s worked for. Remember, Edwards was suspended twice earlier this season, the second time resulting in a four-game absence. She was in the doghouse with head coach Kyra Elzy, but came out of it a far improved player. Edwards has been playing the best basketball of her life since returning from the suspension and it culminated with the game-winner on Sunday.

Edwards finished the game with a game-high 27 points to go along with nine rebounds. She shot 11-21 from the floor and 3-5 from deep, with none bigger than the third and final make.

What a game…
