You know it’s a big win when your quarterback starts the week on the SEC Network. Terry Wilson made an appearance on “SEC This Morning” and told Marcus Spears and Peter Burns the key to Kentucky’s streak-busing win over Florida was preparation.

“We prepared so well that week,” Wilson said. “We just knew we had to do what we had to. We had to be really, really focused that week. Couldn’t mess up our assignments. It was a big thing for our seniors because they had a chance to beat those guys in the past three or four years so we took a lot of pride in practice this week. There were a lot of guys staying after, watching film, staying on the field putting extra work in. There was a lot of pride on the field and you could tell by the team how we were responding to adversity. It was hot. We were bouncing around and bouncing back, making plays in practice. I feel like it started on that Monday, on prep day, and it showed on Saturday.”

Yes, it did, leading to what Wilson said was a wild locker room after the Cats finally snapped the streak.

“The locker room was crazy. We were celebrating for about 35 minutes, 45 minutes after the game. My man Coach Stoops was hyped. It was a wonderful feeling. There’s nothing better than that.”

For the second game in a row, Wilson committed multiple turnovers in the first half, but bounced back in the second, leading Kentucky on two scoring drives. He told Spears and Burns that quickly moving past his mistakes is a key part of his development.

My quarterback coach and Coach Gran, they tell me ‘White piece of paper.’ What that means is, just forget about everything, forget about all the clutter. Play the next play and don’t dwell on the bad plays. You’ve got to erase those, especially as a quarterback.”

Wilson finished 11-16 for 151 yards and two touchdowns passing and another 105 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Not bad for a kid who considered giving up football a year ago.

“There were times in Garden City, Kansas I didn’t want to play football anymore,” Wilson admitted. “It was a lot of lows and it was really, really tough but I kept at it. I had a good support system, I had a lot of previous coaches and family members and all those people in my ear keeping me going and pushing me and stuff like that. It was tough. I was thinking about that the other night. It’s crazy how I go from Garden City, Kansas to the Swamp. I grew up watching Florida, Tim Tebow and those guys. It was crazy.”

Enjoy the win, Terry. You deserve it.
