Welcome Dane Key to the In-State Football Recruiting Party

There’s a new name you need to know in Kentucky high school football. Dane Key is only a sophomore, but this weekend the Frederick Douglass wide receiver entered the in-state recruiting frenzy.

Saturday afternoon Key received his first power five offer when Mark Stoops hosted the 6-3 athlete for an unofficial visit at Kroger Field. Two days later Key made the trip down I-64 to watch the Louisville Cardinals host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. On the visit Scott Satterfield gave Key his fourth total scholarship offer.

Before the season started, Key received offers from Marshall and Western Kentucky. His brother, Devon, is redshirt junior defensive back for the Toppers. You probably remember his father, Donte, who played linebacker at Kentucky in the mid-90s.

Even though I am KSR’s resident football recruiting guru, I can’t paint the clearest picture of what Key brings to the table. That job is best suited for his neighbor, Ryan Lemond.

He obviously developed all of his skills by playing Nerf football in my backyard,” said Lemond. “He got no skills from his Dad. They all came from his Mom.”

All joking aside, Key is about to blow up on the recruiting trail. Purdue, Virginia and West Virginia will surely follow UK and UofL’s lead and extend a scholarship in the near future. A player with a ton of potential in the class of 2022, through two games he has 5 catches for 99 yards and a pair touchdowns. Here’s some of his best work so far.
