What Do the Cats Have in Kanter?

by:Matt Jones03/24/10
guitarenes Enes Kanter committed to Kentucky yesterday. The question I continue to get from UK fans is "tell me something about Enes." Well besides being a rock and roll legend, Kanter is a 6'9" to 6' 11" big man (depending on who is doing the measuring) from Turkey who came to America to specifically play college basketball. While he had a number of lucrative pro offers overseas, his goal is the NBA and those around him believed that college basketball would be his best route to make the dream come true. He originally committed to Washington, but after decommitting, focused in on Kentucky and John Calipari. Kanter is not your typical European big man. He plays on the block mostly and has a great array of low post moves. I would compare him a bit to Demarcus Cousins, but his feet are a bit slower and he doesnt quite have the same bulk. However his nose for the basketball and ability to score in traffic is quite similar. I was told by a recruiting expert that he "might be the most college-ready big man of any in this class. He doesnt have the upside of some of the other guys, but he will be able to contribute quickly for Kentucky." Kanter will fill a need for Kentucky, especially if Daniel Orton were to decide to go in the Draft. He can provide points and a big body down low, and is not afraid to get physical, something that some of the other guys UK is recruiting dont enjoy. Kanter is a GREAT get for the Cats and a perfect pickup as the dominoes start to fall for the 2010 class.
