What Does Matt House Bring to the Table?

house-pitt The morning began with news from Jen Smith that Mark Stoops has likely found Andy Buh's replacement --  FIU defensive coordinator Matt House.  House has coached in a variety of roles on the defensive side of the ball, linebackers and secondary, as well as time as a special teams coordinator.  We're not sure where exactly he'll be assigned at UK, but here are a few things we do know.

Coordinator Experience

Like most of UK's staff, House is a young guy but he does bring coordinating experience to the table.  In two year's as Pitt's defensive coordinator they ranked No. 34 and No. 35 while working for Paul Chryst, who is now the head coach at Wisconsin.  Not too shabby.  Adding House would mean that every coach on the defensive staff --  except Jimmy Brumbaugh on the defensive line -- has spent time as a defensive coordinator.

House has a Fantastic Goatee

Every football team I've ever been around has had at least one "goatee guy" on the coaching staff.  It has been scientifically proven that growing a goatee will exponentially increase your knowledge of football.  Science doesn't lie. Up until this year, Jimmy Brumbaugh was the only coach on the staff with a goatee.  Adding House and Gran's goatees can do nothing but collectively increase the football knowledge on the coaching staff.

An 'NFL Guy'

His boss at FIU was Ron Turner, the Bears offensive coordinator during their Super Bowl run in 2007.  House spent a few years working in the NFL as well.  As the Panthers' special teams assistant in 2008, they won the NFC South and posted the second-best record in franchise history.  He followed that up with three years in St. Louis as a quality control coach.

Florida

They make good football players in Florida.  He's been recruiting out of Miami, Florida for the last year.  It doesn't guarantee that he'll be hitting recruiting homeruns, but he's definitely made some connections during that time.  Hopefully one is with Ahman Ross, the 3-star safety teammate of Mac Jones that just decommitted from Miami.

But He Actually Recruits Better Elsewhere

In House's 247 database, his Top Ten recruits are all from Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania.  If you've kept up with the massive football offer sheets over the last month, you'd know that Stoops' staff is trying to extend their Ohio pipeline into Pennsylvania and Michigan, offering three from Penn and more than a handful from Detroit last week.
