What I'm hearing on C.J. Walker

by:TJ Walker10/24/18

Over the last couple days I’ve had people ask if UK is a threat to land five-star wing C.J. Walker. It’s a relatively new name that hasn’t been mentioned throughout the fall. The Cats watched Walker a few times over the summer, but were cut from his list in August. He’s a 6-foot-8, 200-pound wing from Orlando.

Speaking with people close to UK, one said they had heard Walker’s name mentioned as a potential recruit. The way I took it, UK was going to look into seeing if they could get back on Walker’s list and if they could get him to visit, but all I was told is that his name had been thrown around. Could mean something, could mean nothing. Another source said they would be surprised to hear UK is surging and was unsure if Kentucky had even reached out to the Florida native that played AAU basketball with Vernon Carey Jr.

So, maybe he will become a UK target but if he does the Cats will have to put in some work. I wouldn’t be expecting a commitment from Walker in the next days or anything like that. Personally, I wouldn’t be shocked to hear Walker mention UK in the future, but I can’t confirm that as of today Walker would be receptive to a pitch from UK. He’s considering Miami, Oregon and LSU and has officially visited all three schools. He could take two more officials.

The Lexington Herald Leader’s Ben Roberts was able to catch up with Walker’s AAU coach, and it seems like things aren’t moving fast and may not be moving at all:

I wouldn’t start considering him a big time target as of today.
