What The Gators Said This Week

The week's talkin' is over and all that is left to do is throw the football around tomorrow afternoon. But before we get some shut-eye before the big game down in Ben Hill Griffin, a brief review of some of the comments out of Gainesville in the days leading up to now:   "The streak thing? I think it’s something to write about but every year is different. Now it’s 0-0. These two teams have never played and that’s the key.” Jim McElwain shrugged off the importance of Florida's win streak by reminding everyone that the two teams playing tomorrow were not in any of those 29 game. "It’s 0-0," he said. "These two teams have never played and that’s the key.” "The last time they played in this stadium, they probably felt they should’ve won the ball game. There’s a lot of things that go into that.” McElwain wasn't wearing the head coach's headset when Kentucky lost a heartbreaker in overtime in 2014. But he remembers that game and knows the Wildcats do, too. He said, "I told them last year going into this game, ‘They had a chance right here going into The Swamp.' There was a questionable piece to that, and I don’t know what way it went. I wasn’t here." "Usually watching Kentucky games, you don’t really want to watch it that much. But now they’re really exciting to watch." Florida star linebacker Jarrad Davis sees a new and exciting brand of Kentucky football, unlike teams in the past. “They’re a very good team. They’ve got a lot of good athletes," he said earlier this week. "These past couple of years they’ve really been showing up. Usually watching Kentucky games, you don’t really want to watch it that much. But now they’re really exciting to watch. I really like sitting down and watching them play.” "They like to throw the ball around. We like teams that throw." Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson will welcome the Kentucky offense to Gainesville with open arms. He told reporters, "They like to throw the ball around. And we like teams that throw." Wilson and the UF secondary will be helped out by the return of Jalen Tabor, the All-American corner who missed the UMass game due to a suspension to start the season. "Our secondary is going to be tested this week.” On his Thursday night radio show, McElwain told his listeners, “Kentucky is a team that can score fast. They’re a team with really good skill. They’ve recruited really well. They’re not afraid to stretch the field and take shots. Our secondary is going to be tested this week.” “They’ve got the talent.
