Who Will Take The P4P Kentucky Football Crown?

Last year during basketball season I made my debut on the site with my rankings of the top ten basketball teams in the state. While in basketball two teams could meet head to head and a smaller less talented team could pull off an upset. The same cannot be said on the football field. If Morehead State squared off against Kentucky the outcome would not be pretty to say the least. Therefore the football teams must be ranked like you would rank a fighter, how they stack up amongst their weight class. A sort of pound-for-pound ranking of which instate team has the best shot of having the greatest year. Here are the teams I think have a shot at laying claim to the P4P football championship.   Contenders: Trinity H.S. The Shamrocks had the best year in the state last year as they went undefeated, won the 6A state championship, and were crowned national champion. This year they return much of what made them great last year and will most likely win their 10th title in 12 seasons. Unfortunately for the Rocks they may be held back by weak competition, most of the teams in the state cannot assemble the level of talent that has enrolled in the private halls of Trinity High School. Their roster includes two 4-star players which is more than every college in the state except UK and Louisville. Hopefully the Cats can land any of their three uncommitted ranked players. Louisville The Cards sure are pumped for this upcoming year. I mean after losses to Marshall, Florida International, and NC State who wouldn't be. Plus they may be able to rise to the challenge of the gauntlet that is the Big East schedule before their automatic BCS bid is revoked. On second thought Louisville has no chance of being the best team in the state. They won't even be the best team in their own city. Kentucky The Cats face a tough schedule but that gives them the chance to jump up the rankings with a knockout punch on one of the nation's elite. Still the Cats could go undefeated in the non-conference and pick up a few wins in the toughest league in the nation to be considered P4P champs.   Dark Horses: Western Kentucky Last year the Hilltoppers got robbed from going to a bowl game and played our Cats too close for comfort. This year they could take care of business in the Sun Belt and reach their first bowl since moving to the FBS. It will be a tough task for the tops though as they lost their all-time leading rusher and have to play on the road at Kentucky. It's unlikely the tops will be viewed as one of the top teams in the state.   Georgetown College The NAIA is the wild west of college sports. Fewer rules and more unknowns means that any of the local NAIA teams could make a run for the championship. Georgetown reached the final four of the NAIA tournament last year before getting beaten. Can they make a run again this year?   The state of Kentucky football is in a bit of flux right now. The Cards are puffing their chests out but really don't have a solid reason to be. Joker will be coaching for his job this year. The smaller state schools come into the year in transition. As the season plays out though it will be fun to watch just which team in the state is having the best year of all. Who would you pick?
