Why We Should Pull For Vandy

by:Will Lentz03/05/11

This stock model is ‘Vandy Hot.

With Alabama setting up the road to the two seed for Kentucky earlier today by beating Georgia, a couple things changed.  We no longer need to root for Florida to beat Vanderbilt, the winner of that game will have no direct affect on Kentucky.  However, if Vanderbilt does lose the two seed is still in play for Kentucky, but now the two seed would  also be in play for Tennessee. It actually puts the vols in quite an interesting slot, if they lose tomorrow they will get a 5 seed.  But if Florida wins tonight and UT beats UK tomorrow, they go up to a 2 seed.  That’s a huge jump.

The guys from the South Eastern conference posted these explanations on the Cat Scratches blog yesterday, but I’ll excerpt the important ones in case you’re confused.

If Tennessee wins, Kentucky loses, Vanderbilt loses, Tennessee would be the No. 2 seed, Kentucky No. 3, Vanderbilt No. 4, Georgia No. 5

– League records would be: Tennessee 9-7, Kentucky 9-7, Vanderbilt 9-7, Georgia 9-7

If Tennessee wins, Kentucky loses, Vanderbilt wins, Vanderbilt would be No. 2, Kentucky No. 3, Tennessee No. 4, Georgia No. 5

– League records would be: Tennessee 9-7, Kentucky 9-7, Vanderbilt 10-6, Georgia 9-7

If Kentucky wins, Vanderbilt wins, Kentucky would be No. 2, Vanderbilt No. 3, Georgia No. 4, Tennessee No. 5

– League records would be: Kentucky 10-6, Vanderbilt 10-6, Georgia 9-7, Tennessee 8-8

If Kentucky wins, Vanderbilt loses, Kentucky would be No. 2, Vanderbilt No. 3, Georgia No. 4, Tennessee No. 5

– League records would be: Kentucky 10-6, Vanderbilt 9-7, Georgia 9-7, Tennessee 8-8

So there ya go.  There is a wide range for Tennessee regardless, but I would rather them not be playing us for the two seed tomorrow, the less motivating factors they have the better.

Go ‘Dores.
