Will Kentucky Get a Point Guard for Christmas?

by:Matt Jones12/21/07
Recruiting is simply different under Billy Clyde. In part due to more secrecy around the program and a lack of leaks and in part due to a propensity to make rapid decisions on whether to offer players, we often dont know about Billy Clyde recruits until they are almost ready to commit. This process repeats again this week with the visit of Tyrone Appleton to the Bluegrass. Appleton is a lock-down defender point guard, EXACTLY what Billy Clyde wants running his system and the type of player that UK could use a great deal this season. He is a JUCO kid, which means two years on campus, but much less of a learning curve. His recruitment suggests that DeAndre Liggins may not be aimed as a point guard, and that Billy Clyde wants defensive help over scoring.....no matter what. He is visiting this weekend for the Tennessee Tech game and there are strong feelings that he might commit while on campus. Kentucky's history with JUCOers hasnt been strong (Nate Knight anyone?). But Appleton is a classic Billy Clyde player.....as you are getting ready for Christmas with your family, he may be ready to join the UK family.....stay tuned....
