Will Levis, Kentucky did what they needed to do to beat LSU

I’ll come out and say it, this team is special. I know, bold take for a team that’s 6-0 for the first time since color television was introduced. Despite his abhorrent and utterly repulsive food choices, Will Levis and the rest of this Wildcat team are doing absolutely everything in their power to make this as unforgettable of a season as anyone in the BBN has seen.

Starting 4-0 in the SEC? Never once had a doubt.

Beating Florida at home? Easy.

Even with all that the ‘Cats have already done and accomplished this season, last night’s dominant victory over LSU may have been the most reassuring win of the season. In some ways, yesterday was the most important test Kentucky will face all year. Yes, more important than Georgia.

Will Levis keeps everything in perspective

The games against Florida and Georgia mean absolutely nothing if the ‘Cats went out and put on an absolute stinker against LSU. All of this elite résumé building would ultimately be for naught.

I can’t lie, I was nervous heading into this. There’s absolutely no chance in the world that LSU should potentially be a trap game, but it was. Kentucky was still hovering around -3 on the books, which doesn’t signal dominance by any means, especially for a home game. They had every opportunity to slip up and fail to take care of business, but I guess this really is a new era in Kentucky.

“We wanted to make sure there wasn’t a lull after last week. A lot of the times when there’s a big win like that… there’s kinda that hangover in the next game that you see a lot of teams have,” Levis said after the game. “We wanted to make sure we didn’t have anything like that happen. We wanted to be on the screws all week in practice. Offensively, defensively and special teams we did that, and it showed tonight.”

Mark Stoops made it a big thing this past week to emphasize the awareness needed when going through this stretch of the schedule. Georgia is, and has always been, the prize and what UK fans have been begging for. Steps needed to be taken first, though. Will Levis and the ‘Cats took care of every step along the way. Now…

Rinse and repeat

I would envision that just a small part of Stoops and the rest of the BBN have no idea what to do now. The whole fun of the pursuit was the excitement during the adventure, now it’s just reality. Everybody clamored for the shot at Georgia for SEC supremacy, now they got it. And now Levis and the rest of the team have to prepare and react accordingly.

It’ll be tough to react to Georgia though, who is going to be the No. 1 team in the nation after Alabama fell to Texas A&M. They’re just a juggernaut with no plans of stopping.

Levis and the rest of the ‘Cats are going to try and react accordingly next weekend. If they keep the same mentality and focus they had before knocking off LSU, it should be an entertaining game, to say the least.
