Football season is here. That means we have a few months before the draft season takes over the football world. Before the games start, there is one final window to get some draft content out towards the masses.

Pro Football Focus (PFF) has issued a preseason top-100 big board for rising prospects entering the 2022 college football season. Kentucky quarterback Will Levis checks in at No. 48 overall as QB4 behind Bryce Young (Alabama), C.J. Stroud (Ohio State), and Tanner McKee (Stanford).

“Levis took a massive leap forward after transferring from Penn State to Kentucky last season,” writes PFF. “We saw his elite physical ability get harnessed to play the quarterback position within structure, and he earned a 90.6 overall grade as a result. Levis still could stand to be more consistent with his mechanics and improve upon his downfield accuracy.”

The redshirt senior flashed strong accuracy playing with command of an offense shown a high completion rate (66%) and a solid passing success rate (49.6%). However, connecting on vertical shot throws was an issue as Levis ranked T-60 nationally in 40-plus yard completions (8). That number must rise for the Wildcats to reach their ceiling under new offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.

As Kentucky looks to replace Wan’Dale Robinson and will be without All-SEC tailback Chris Rodriguez Jr. for the first part of the season, more will be on Will Levis’ plate. Kentucky needs their QB1 to play like a star for this team to reach expectations. If Levis is able to still play within structure and provide more splash plays with his bazooka arm, it should mean some very good things for the University of Kentucky.

Georgia is stacked

Kentucky’s next goal as a program is to win the SEC East. To claim a division title, the Cats must get by the juggernaut that Kirby Smart has built at Georgia. Thanks to consistent top-five recruiting classes, the Bulldogs have a roster littered with talent despite losing five first-round picks and 15 overall draft selections off last year’s squad.

Georgia enters the season with six players listed as preseason top-100 prospects.

With four top-25 prospects, UGA once again has what should be the best roster in the SEC East. That will make beating this team difficult, but games are not played on paper. Georgia is having to deal with unprecedented success now after winning a national championship with some of the hunger that drove the program now gone.

Only time will tell if that leads to a letdown on the field. We know overall talent should not be the issue in Athens.
