Gilliland (h/t UK Athletics) The University of Kentucky Women’s Soccer team took down #19 West Virginia in Morgantown, W.V. Sunday afternoon 4-2. Junior Arin Gilliland recorded her best game as a Wildcat as she scored two goals and assisted on two others to help UK get the big away win. Gilliland opened up the contest by scoring a goal ten seconds into the game off a defensive mistake, giving the Cats a 1-0 lead. The goal is her second of the year to come in the first minute of a match. In the 23rd minute, Stuart Pope scored again to pad the UK lead. The junior received a pass from Arin Gilliland and split two defenders to score her team-high seventh goal on the season. West Virginia leading scorer Kate Schwindel answered back before the end of the half to narrow the UK lead going into halftime. After the half, UK came out firing and freshman Zoe Swift netted her sixth goal of the season off another great pass from Gilliland. Swift controlled the pass, took a few touches and hit a wonderful strike from 25 yards out to put the Cats up 3-1. Zoe Swift (h/t UK Athletics) In the 66th minute, Swift was taken down inside the box and Kentucky was awarded a penalty. Gilliland calmly hit a well taken penalty kick, putting the game out of reach for the Mountaineers. The penalty kick was her second made PK on the season (2-2). Kentucky Women’s Soccer continued on its hot streak of six straight wins dating back to August 30th, with their dominant play this weekend. The Cats open SEC play away against Auburn this Friday at 8 p.m. ET, in their only game of the week. The team has a very good shot to continue on their winning streak through the next couple games as they start their SEC campaign. Stay tuned to KSR for updates. Go Cats! @kaansoloKSR
